Interpoma fair presented on Fruit Logistica 2014
In just over nine months from now it will be time for Interpoma 2014, the ninth edition of the Trade Show devoted to Apple Cultivation, Storage and Marketing, which will take place from 20-22 November in the Fiera Bolzano Exhibition Center (South Tyrol/Italy). The trade show's core attraction is the international congress "The Apple in the World", the apple industry's benchmark event. Coordinated by the Swiss fruit-growing expert Kurt Werth, this conference offers contributions from sector specialists and observers from all over Europe, the US and New Zealand.
When proceedings begin, on Thursday 20 November at 9 a.m, the spotlight will be on new market trends and the organization of supply management in the global apple market. In this respect, particular attention will be paid to the European market and the situation in the US. The focus will then shift to demand and supply developments in Eastern Europe, and to supply organization in the Southern Hemisphere.
Friday 21 November will be devoted to the subject of sustainable fruit growing, including glimpses into laboratory ideas for future innovational developments. Experts from various universities and research centers in Italy, Germany and the US will speak on numerous different aspects of this issue, and a study of possible new prospects in agriculture, based on a family fruit-growing enterprise in South Tyrol, will be presented. The discussion will then shift to the environmental effects of different phytosanitary defense strategies applied to apple growing. This will include the presentation of various innovative machinery and devices that aid sustainable fruit cultivation: tractors, tools for working the soil, for plant health control and for apple-picking.
The last day of the congress, on Saturday 22 November, will focus on scientific and research developments, and on how fruit growing practice must adapt to climatic change. This will include discussion of genetic mutations, new non-chemical antifungal treatments, and special netting to protect orchards from hail but also from sunburn.
«These will be three days of in-depth study on pressing issues for the apple-growing sector – explains Kurt Werth, the conference coordinator – with distinguished international speakers providing participants with news and insights vital for updating and optimizing all aspects of the apple industry. We are convinced – he continues – that this year once again, “The Apple in the World" will make Interpoma an unmissable opportunity for everyone in this sector ».
«In 2012, Interpoma attracted over 16,000 sector operators from more than 60 countries to the Fiera Bolzano Exhibition Center, a 13.5% increase on 2010. It also featured 364 exhibiting companies from 17 nations, confirming itself as the benchmark event for the entire apple-growing industry – declares Reinhold Marsoner, Director of Fiera Bolzano – The International Congress “The Apple in the World" is a key aspect of the event and makes a vital contribution to its success and prestige».
